Sunset Beach - Bridge

Sunset Beach, North Carolina
The beach is actually located on an island. To access the beach from the Sunset Beach mainland you must cross the Sunset Beach Bridge which is a single lane "swing bridge". A traffic light directs either the eastbound or westbound traffic to cross. If boats are traveling the Intracoastal Waterway all traffic waits while the bridge swings open to let the boats pass. Now, when you think of that remember you are in "beach mode", you are relaxed and enjoy watching the boats cruise on the water.
The area has seen substantial growth in the past few years, but has retained the "beach mode" feel and attitude. The intersection of Hwy. 904 & Hwy. 179 has recently added a Live / Work development by Dock Street consisting of small row-type shops with living quarters above. (The same developer built the Dock Street section at Market Commons - Myrtle Beach.) On the back side of the Food Lion grocery store is a Deli with indoor and outdoor seating. The meals and baked goods are made on-site, if you are in the area you may want to visit. The Deli also has internet connection if you just couldn't leave work at home.
