North Myrtle Beach is known as the birthplace of the "Shag" dance and the well known Main Street area has the places for Shaggers to show their steps. For two weeks in April and two weeks in September the out-of-town Shaggers come to dance the night away. Also while traveling around North Myrtle Beach you may see pictures of the "Wheel of Fortune" hostess, Vanna White. She is from North Myrtle Beach and is routinely seen visiting her friends and family.

A well thought out beach access plan provides numerous ocean side parking areas. Several new handicap boardwalk type access areas start at the paved parking area and go to the sand only yards from the splashing waves. There is also a deck area at the ocean end for those who just want to see the ocean without playing in the sand.
